Reading speed

5 reasons to develop your reading speed

As my challenge is to read 55 books. what way to start better by learning what are the reasons for learning to read faster?

I never though that why i was reading, just read for school but then

Why read faster? The answer should be simple, shouldn’t it? Beyond the obvious answer “to read faster and be able to read more articles and more books in less time”, there is much more. Reading is a subject of scientific analysis. In his book Les Neurones de la Lecture, Stanislas Dehaene even questions how primates have developed a cortical territory for reading.

Here are 5 reasons to develop your reading speed that you probably haven’t thought of:

Improves memory

The brain functions like a muscle. When we train our brain, it becomes stronger and can function more efficiently. Rapid reading challenges the brain to function at a higher level. When you train your brain to receive information faster, other functions improve, such as memory.

Improves self-confidence

Speed reading makes you understand that you can learn any aspect of life faster. As you improve your ability to read and learn faster, you’ll find that more and more doors open and more options become available to you. Indeed, every book or article we read helps us change our consciousness and begin to bring more depth to our lives. This new depth will help to increase your self-confidence.

Improves concentration

The majority of people have the ability to read about 200 words per minute; this is the average reading speed. But some can read up to 300 words per minute. Why such a gap? There are two main reasons for this big difference. First, the traditional reading style we are taught is not very effective. The second reason is the lack of concentration that people apply to their reading. If you are not focused on what you are reading, your mind will go astray. Rapid reading helps sharpen concentration.

Improves logic

Reading is an exercise that trains the brain. When you train your brain to read faster, something amazing happens. You allow your brain to become more efficient at sorting information and finding links between previously stored information. The faster you improve your reading speed, the faster this process accelerates and you will automatically notice logical improvements in the regular tasks of your work and life, as you get used to responding quickly to what would have taken longer before

Improves emotional well-being

Reading is usually a very relaxing activity. Just seeing a book on a table or couch reduces stress. The reason for this is that we associate reading with a pose and with our favourite authors. Reading can be a source of escape from worries and take us away from thoughts that are neither healthy nor beneficial. When you read faster, you become even more absorbed in the text. This forces you to focus primarily on the important information in your reading. At the same time, this concentration has the effect of leading you into a kind of active meditation. Active meditation is a meditative state that occurs when we practice an activity with all our attention. This state can relieve tension and increase emotional well-being. In this case, your reading choices will be just as important as learning to read quickly
